Remote Access Issue

Hello All!

This is my first post and I am glad to learn of this resource!

I am trying to access my office computer from my laptop using Terminal Server. The office PC has Windows XP Professional and I can remotely access the computer, by name, from another computer on the office network. I opened port 3389 in my office Linksys router and pointed the traffic to my office computer's IP address. But when I run MSTSC (or accessories, communication, remote access) on my laptop and enter my office computer's IP address or the IP address of the router, I receive an error message saying the computer cannot be found. At the moment my laptop is connected via cable to a wireless router. I've obviously missed a setting somewhere but I am turning to this community because I am out of things to try.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Brad

In remote desktop connection you need to type in the public IP address of the router then the port number (i.e.. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3389).

Quick note: It is usually advisable to change the listening port of the PC you want to access from the internet. This is because most every one knows that port 3389 is default for RDC. All anyone needs is your public IP address and they could have access to your computer.

Thanks Crazijoe!

I appreciate the answer and tip on the listening port.
