Strange ipconfig problem

Hey all,

I'm running an HP hns00e router, with 2 machines currently hooked up.

After being wrongfully banned from an mIRC channel, I was forced to change my IP address using the /release and /renew commands I've used dozens of times before through the DOS Prompt on XP Pro.

So, I released the IP address.. and attempted to renew.. I waited, and waited.. and waited.. it never came.
I reset, and let XP do its thing.. and it was even recieving packets.. but still, my internet remained crippled.

I managed to get it back by pluging my unaffected PC directly into the modem.. when I tried th same with my main, I still had no luck..

So, any help would be appreciated.. I really don't know what I did wrong.
As it stands, I'm stuck running on the computer I set up for the rest of my family.

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

You could try repairing the TCP/IP stack and Winsock. Open a Command Prompt window, type:

netsh interface ip reset resetlog.txt and press Enter

netsh winsock reset catalog and press Enter

Exit the Command Prompt window and reboot the PC.

If you are connected to a router, wouldn't this release/renew only your LAN IP address as allocated by your router and not your 'public' WAN address?

When you changed the attached device on a broadband modem, you need to power cycle the modem.
