Problem with new linksys adapter
First off, i would like tos ay sorry if this isnt in the right spot, ive never posted at this site before and im not relaly sure what my problem goes under.
Anyways, ive had my computer now for about a year and a half, and have had very few problems with the internet. We have 2 computers in my house, my moms (im on it now, and yes, my mom..im only 16), and my own. My mom's connects directs directly to the internet, and she has a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router. My computer, for the past year and a half, has connected to the internet using a Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter. Earlier this week, it just..stopped working. It was having trouble on sunday, disconnecting once and i had trouble rconnecting. Then Monday, i was playing some Final Fantasy 11, and i got disconnected twice (which has never happened before), and then once that night on AIM, and then it took 2 hours for me to get it working again. Finally, i got home from school Tuesday, and it just..didnt work at all. It said it didnt recognize the device, and it was malfunctioning, so i went out and bought a Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster. Woohoo. So i go to install it, and it tells me "The Driver has already been installed. if you want to replace the driver, you must uninstall the old driver." So from there, i go to uninstall the old linksys adapter and it says: "An installation support file could not be installed. The system could not find the file specified" I tried calling the people at Linksys, and that pretty much was a waste of an hour. I tried the Linksys website, and that got me nowhere too. So im hoping you guys can maybe help me out. |

Can you reinstall the old software over the top of the existing copy and then Uninstall it properly via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel?
If not, try going into Device Manager, expand the Network adapters category and double click the existing adapter to open its Properties. In the Driver tab, click the Uninstall button. Then install the new software which, if I remember correctly, has to be loaded before plugging in the USB Wireless Network Adapter. |
