Help me Connect to Internet SERIOUS PROBLEM
Hi guys I really need some help.
My computer is in a Hotel where they have internet in the rooms and the my IP settings need to be set to automatic but I still dont get connection to internet. Currently I am using a Windows XP Professional Final Integrated SP2, but I've also tryed on orginary: Windows Professional SP2 When I connect the cable the LAN card lights up and the Local area connection status says: "accuireing network connection" and goes on like this for 1-2 min. and then it says limited or no connectivity but if i plug the cable to my laptop it connects in seconds and I can surf the net. I've tryed everything: 1.Changed Lan Cards 2.Switching cables 3.Repairing/ ReInstalling Windows 4.Formating and then ReInstalling I also have a laptop in the room and when I connect it to the network everyting goes fine and I have internet. So therefore the problem is in my PC. I am out of ideas and stuck. If anyone can't has any good ideas I would be happy to hear them. Last edited by Flame_N; 06-01-2006 at 12:32 PM. |

If by "flags" you mean question marks then No thare are no. Everything is fine there.
I have 2 network adapters: 1: intel(R)pro 100B PCI adapter (TX) 2:NVIDIA nForce MCP networking adapter |

Im suprised that no net working folk have jumped in. But whatever, I would
think that if you removed one of those adapters your problem would go away. Why do you need 2? But you need to use the right one, uninstall one of them, if you use onboard make sure that it is enabled in bios, and vice versa. By vice versa, if you use a pci nic card disable the onboard in bios, enough rambling

If you are using the onboard nic, I would take the other card out of
the machine, uninstall the drivers for that nic from add remove programs. If I were using the pci nic I would go to bios, disable the onboard nic, and remove drivers from add remove programs. I dont think simply dis abling will work as the drivers are still installed.

Im scratchin my head on this one, have you went into the internet connect
ion wizard? Insure you are set up to hookup through a lan, and not dial up. By default it is set to dial up. Worth a shot.

Everything is working fine drivers, hardware ... this isnt something basic that I have left out (I hope). the DHCP client is set to automatic. "ipconfig/renew" still doesnt want to do what it's supposed to...(timed out). Already have "set up a home or small office network". I just got a new LAN card and I'm gonna plug it in and see if that work (honestly I don't think that will work). I will tell you if it does.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.
For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log Reboot and test. If that fails, try this Automated WINSOCK Fix for XP

If it wasn't for the fact that you've reinstalled Windows, I would have suggested repairing TCP/IP by running:
netsh interface ip reset resetlog.txt in a Command Prompt window. It wouldn't actually do any harm to try it anyway. Beaten to it! Last edited by mgmcc; 06-02-2006 at 09:07 AM. |
