Good Day,
Did a complete restore on my work computer yesterday, b/c it crashed. Some of the drivers were missing after restore. I was able to download the correct drivers and install them and they work properly , including the network adapter. the dsl IS connected, yet I cannot get online. The page says: cannot connect to the server. Do not quite understand how one can be connected and not the other... Not permitted to call the computer person who installed the networking and the server in this office... do not know what else to check in the computer, everything looks correct... I do computer repairs but I have little knowledge of dsl or networking. all the other computers in the office are working fine. :>( Thanks... linda |

Not quite sure what you mean by "the DSL is connected"? Presumably in an office, you would be connecting the network adapter directly to a router and, provided your "Local Area Connection" has got its addresses (IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS server) from the router, you should have internet access. Are you getting the correct addresses by DHCP from the router?

Hi
Thankyou for the response.
The local area connection speed is showing 100.0Mbps yes to all you asked, there is a dsl receiver on my desk, a that goes into a dell power connect box 2016 for networking. the computer with the server is in the next room. I already uninstalled the network adapter driver and reinstalled it, I also did a winstock repair. no changes. On my computer when I open the - local area connection status: under support tab, (tcp/ip) I notice it reads different under: address type. all other computers read- manually configured my computer reads- assigned by DHCP hope that answers what you asked me..I am kind of ignorant in this area..

Sorry, you've obviously got a fairly specialised setup - it isn't a simple peer-to-peer network connecting via a router. You've got a Client/Server based network in a commercial situation and it seems to me that you need to get the person who set it up to come and sort it. I don't know why you are not allowed to do that because that might be the only solution.

finally........
hey,
after much research, I found the tcp/ip settings were set as automatic, so I put them in manually to match the other computers, just changed one number on the end and I am connecting now. maybe its beginner's luck, only took me 2 days! just glad its ok... thanks for your input it led me in the right research.. good day.. bunnyflo |
