Ok, I've been dealing with this issue for pretty much 2 weeks now..any advice would be great...and I'm really sorry for the long post--there is just sooo much to this problem and I have done so much to try to fix it.
So, I have ethernet connection at my apt and I just returned to my apt from a week break and didn't have internet connection. I called my network co. (NTC) and they said that it was a problem w/my computer bc:
So, I took it in to get looked at. However, when he plugged my computer in to check for internet connection, it worked there...go figure. So he said it was a network issue. I went home and plugged my computer into my port--no connection here still. I called NTC back and they sent a tech out. He looked at my computer and again said it was an issue with my computer b/c he did get internet connection when he plugged his laptop in. He said maybe my ethernet plug thing in my computer was old, so he tried a USB/ethernet converter thing. I got internet connection. The very next day, internet cut out on me again. But this time I didn't have internet connection through BOTH the normal ethernet connection AND the USB/ethernet converter thing. *sigh* So I brought my laptop home (not at my apt at college) to see if I had internet connection at home (either wireless or ethernet). I tried plugging my computer into the router at my house through the ethernet cable--no internet connection. So, I then tried to use the USB/ethernet connection--and I got connection! I also got connection when I tried wireless. This was indicating that the ethernet plug thing in my computer was old. But what I don't understand is why the USB/ethernet connection worked at home but not at my apt at school. Why did it cut out all of a sudden? Wireless at home also worked so I used this all weekend. My dad suggested I buy a router bc I know that wireless does work (it worked at home). I got back to my apt at school and hooked it up and got internet connection! FINALLY a solution to my problems. But, no. Today, internet cut out AGAIN. My router's lights are on and that seems to be running properly. I have a wireless card in my laptop, and lights on it turn green when it gets a wireless connection. Anyway, there are no lights lit up on it anymore. So, I went to do a "scan" to see what routers/networks were avaliable and I found mine, double clicked to get connection and in the connection tab (or whatever it was) it just continued to say "Scanning...." instead of actually connecting. So it seems like the computer sees my router, but it won't connect for some reason. I am so SICK of this....I know that it's not my ethernet cable bc I tried other cables and the same things happens. I wonder if it was just my ethernet plug in my computer, why does wireless now not work? I'm wondering if I have a virus?" It might take me a while to respond to replies to this post bc obviously I don't have internet connection at my computer at my apt, so I have to use the computer labs on campus. I will take my laptop home this weekend and it will be interesting to see if I get internet connection at home either w/the USB/ethernet converter again and/or wireless. ANY suggstions would be helpful. My dad is thinking of re-installing my computer. Anything heard/experienced anything like this before, or know what's going on? |

I don't know if it's important but the Router I have is a Belkin Wireless G Router, and my Wireless card is also Belkin. My computer is a Dell and it is about 4 years old (i know..) and the platform is Windows XP Pro.
