Wireless Connectivity
Hi, i am having a problem with my wireless internet connection. From time to time, i find i am unable to open webpages, connect to MSN messenger services, or any other internet activities, however, my wireless connection reports that it is still connected. When i try to repair the connection, the process get stuck at "disabling wireless network adaptor". The only way to reconnect is to restart the computer. I cannot find the casuse of the problem. I have used virus scanners and spyware removal incase this is the problem.
Our wireless connetion is encrypted, and also has the DHCP server switched off, only computers with pre-specified MAC addresses can be assigned a static IP address. |

Since you have defined static addresses, you may run into the problem you describe. Since you have encrypted your link, I don't know why you have opted for static IP addresses.

If it's getting stuck on disabling the adapter, it may be a driver problem. Try reinstalling your network-device driver, or see if the mfgr has an update.
In my experience, WEP and static IP addresses will not cause a problem. I don't know what JohnWill is thinking about. I've found DHCP has more problems than static addresses. John, if you're still following this thread, care to elaborate on your previous comment: "Since you have defined static addresses, you may run into the problem you describe." FYI, if you have static addresses, pretty much the only thing "repair" does is to unload your driver and reload it. With DHCP, "repair" goes on to reacquire the IP Address, Gateway, and Nameservers. Still, "repair" is a good thing to try to fix Windoze driver hiccups. I need to use it regularly when switching between 802.11a and 802.11b networks -- the driver at one point just started regularly failing to do this. - The Inspector |
