Frequently losing sync
I recently switched ISPs, and consequently, my ADSL modem. Usually, it works fine, and as I am about 1.7 km. from the phone exchange, my median download speed of 8Mb/sec seems pretty good.
BUT, on some days (no pattern discernable) the DSL light on the modem starts to blink, indicating loss of sync, and keeps this up for some minutes until sync is re-established. It will work satisfactorily for 2 to 3 minutes, then start blinking again. I have Norton's "Keep alive" installed - but this seems to make no difference one way or another. I called my phone company, who said that my line seems OK. I suspect a problem external to my machine, but I have no idea what it might be, or what to do about it. I cannot really compare to my previous ISP, as I had then a lower speed, and a different modem. Anyone have any ideas ??? |
