wag54guk drops the wireless connection but is ok on wired.
Hi
I have 3 computers, all accessing the interent on broadband. I bought the WAG54GUK router to enable all to do so. I was attratced to the wireless option as often use my laptop around the house. For a while I had 2pc's connected as wired and 1 laptop as wireless , I had a problem with the wireless internet connection being dropped all the time, I then changed another ps to wireless so I had 1 using it through a wired connection into this router and 2 accessing the router wirelessly. This was ok for a while and then I noticed that even though the wired connection stayed online all the time, the wireless interent connection would disappear. Every time this happens I check the lights on the front panel, nothing has changed, nothing has gone off or gone red, or even flashing unless this is what it did normally. IT has got to a point where each time this happenes, at least once every session, I have to get my partner in the room with the router to reset it, off and on. He is getting a bit ***** about it as he is now playing an online game and has to stop save himself and then reset the router. Any ideas why this could be, obviously its not my isp as the wired connection is solid throughout. Driving me nuts trying to work out why this is happening. BTW when I do have my wireless connection ist works a treat, not a problem until it turns itself off. Sometimes it requires 2 restarts. ta muchly in anticipation of your co-operation in this matter |

Well, I'd start with checking the router firmware and seeing if you have the latest version.

Sorry, perhaps I should have made myself clear,
The router has the current software and has been updated, I have this scheduled every week, and not just by asking my pc to do it either. Its one of a long list of scheduled jobs my other half has to do, and I can confirm this has been done, all the pc's operate the uptodate version of all the software we use. What I find most annoying is that I have had to give up on the wireless network and have now gone totally wired. It was getting too ridiculous for words. I do find it most annoying that I purchase a piece of hardware in the full hope that it will do "what it says on the box". I pay extra for this, because I need it. Unfortunately, it does seem that these days companies seem to chuck out sub standard hardware and software just to get it out there, and rely on the end user doing all the quality checks for them and then advising them of the problems, in the stupid hope that a patch will be released or that the manufacturer will admit to selling an item that goes against all the trading standards and purchase law that is applicable. Since I have swapped to wired only I have had no problem, but this is not why I chose this particular router, and it has curtailed my activities greatly. I guess I wont be buying another linksys product, there just doesn't seem to be the support for their products when they go wrong. So far thats Linksys and US Robotics that are blackballed. Anyone have a decent router they would like to share information on with me? |
