Wireless Router Internet Problem

First off im going to say this, im not good at all with routers/networking... thus my connection was not set up by me... but here is the situation:

My cable internet is hooked up to a wireless router. My desktop computer (which i am currently on) is directly connected to that via a ethernet cable. My laptop has been connecting to the internet through the wireless router, and it has been working awesome... untill 30 minutes ago. It randomly, for no reason, wont connect to anything. The little wireless icon in the corner says connected, connection: excellent, and all that. But i did notice that it randomly isnt receiving packets anymore. I have no clue what did this, because it happened when i was in the middle of typing an email.

The 2 things that get me most are, why after working for 2 months now, does it randomly not work?? (especially since it happened in under 5 minutes), and why does my internet on the desktop work fine still then??

If anyone has any suggestions/feedback on how i might fix this, please reply! Thanks for your time!

Some things to try.

Right-click the network icon in systray if there is one, click repair.

If that doesn't work, start-->run-->type cmd-->enter. At the prompt, type ipconfig /release hit enter, then type, ipconfig /renew hit enter.

If that doesn't work, turn everything off...modem, router, computer. Turn back on in this order...modem, wait till lights stabalize, then the router, wait a couple of minutes...then turn the computers on.

If all of this does not work. Post make and models of modem and router and we will go from there.
