Severe wireless DSL issues
Heres all my information:
location: San Marcos, California ISP: SBC Yahoo DSL $15/mo or so. Router: Belkin 802.11g wireless Router DSL Modem: SpeedStream 5360 Ethernet Modem Connection Area: through Phoneline (all lines in house have DSL filter) Issue: Every 15 mins or so of every single day of the past 2 weeks ... the internet has gone down for about 10 minutes and come back up... WTF? It goes down for the main pc (where the modem is) and the 3 pcs connected through the router! Tried: Power Recycling, Calling the SBC guy in New Delhi with his textbook, Cooling the router and SpeedStream, refiltering all phonelines, renewing the router (don't know how that would help). Request: List of all improvements towards this situation and my internet, List of all problems and issues with this. I would be very glad if this is answered fully ![]() |

My top suspect would be the inside wiring.
Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco service entrance. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues.

$50 question, what are the LED's on the DSL modem doing when you loose connectivity? Most DSL modems have a DSL or Connection LED that should be solid when the connection is functioning, when the connection is lost and trying to reacquire, this LED blinks.
If the LED is blink, you may have a inside wiring and/or level problem. Do you have any 60 Hz hum on your phones? Have you recently connected a new telephone device? TiVo, Satellite receiver, fax, answering machine, new phone(s)? JamesO |

uhh..
If by LED's you mean lights? Yes the "Connected" light on the far right of the router blinks every single time it goes down and somewhat frequently the "dsl" light on the modem goes off until the "Connected" light returns... we have not connected to any services recently and we have DSL splitters on all phone lines in the house... This is really starting to irritate me and my family and my dad is too lazy to switch to cox (since it doesn't use a phone line)....

Like I said, the interior wiring with all the filters and multiple drops frequently causes issues for DSL. Until you make sure that isn't the issue, it's pointless to pursue other avenues.
Try a simple experiment. Get a DSL compatible RJ11 patch cable (twisted pair) and connect it directly to the service entrance of your phone service, temporally disconnecting all the other wiring. See if the connection will run properly for as long as it takes to be sure the issue is either solved or still there.

Looks like your DSL signal is weak and/or has noise or hum causing the modem to break lock.
Time to ask the DSL provider to do a remote RCL and verify signals to your modem. Like JW said, connecting directly to the phone company interface can bypass all your in house wiring. My guess is you have 60 Hz hum on the line or an AM radio station nearby causing problems. Again most of these problems are with inside wiring, usually at a jack somewhere. You can call the telephone company to come out and sort it, however, they will charge between $100-$200 to correct typical problems. If the problem is on the telco side, they will not charge you.
