Verizon DSL problem
my daughter just moved to DC area today - new Dell laptop. Dell worked well instantly in my home before she left (cable modem, not DSL).
She moved to a house in DC which has Verizon DSL. The home owner has an older Dell. DSL worked flawlessly until my daughter tried to connect to the Linksys wireless router. Immediately both machines lost connectivity. Tried powering down everything. Tried to CAT 5 it directly from laptop to modem. No luck. I say it is the DSL system or modem - if modem, why would new laptop trying to connect cause a fault? Any help would be appreciated. I would imagine a Linksys wireless system should be independent of signal source, in other words, does a Dell system need to know whether it is DSL or cable? I say no. thanks in advance. |

Sounds like you need to configure the router for a pppoe connection.
I can give you step by step instructions if you'd like, but you'll have to tell me what kind of modem you have. (ie, westell 2200, 6100, wirespeed, etc.) You'll also need to have your verizon online username and password handy. |

Turn off everything, modem, router, machines.
Turn on the broadband modem, wait for it to connect. Turn on the router, give it about 2 minutes to stabilize. Boot one of the machines. If it connects, boot the other one.
