browsers connect to internet, some programs will not

My internet browsers will all connect to the internet with no problem, but some of the programs installed will not connect. AdAware, Spybot, and many others will not update, tried to use movielink, but won't update movielink manager, thus, will not download movie. Please Help! Thank you!

ps. all programs have connected before, and nothing significant has changed that I know of.

Try a system restore to before the problem started happening.

System restore will not work, programs haven't been able to connect for quite some time, but it hasn't been an issue up to this point.
