Recommendation for wired router?

Have decided to add a wired router to my Comcast cable modem so that a second computer can be brought on line as well as obtaining the added Internet security.

Any recommendations for a wired router or does it make much difference as to which model of LinkSys, Netgear, Belkin, etc. in connecting my cable modem to two computers?

I have no experience with routers and Internet security, ease and dependability of installtion as well as sharing the Comcast modem are priorities.

I've had good luck with D-Link, SMC, and Linksys. I have a Trendnet router here that I got for peanuts on a rebate, and so far it seems to work just fine also. If you stick with brand names, you should be fine.

One nice thing about a cable account, you can reset the router to factory defaults and it should work right out of the box for a Comcast cable account.

If you keep an eye on these sites, good deals come by all the time on routers.

If you plan on using VPN client software, stay away from D-Link. They don't agree with SonicWall VPN.
I have had very good luck with Linksys and Netgear.

Curious, I've been using a couple of VPN connections with an aging D-Link DI-614+ without any difficulty.

Not trying to hijack the thread but. We're using a SonicWall VPN router at our Office and our outside sales put their orders with the SonicWall VPN Client software over the net. The users that are using D-Link routers (specifically the DI-624 and the DI-524) cannot pass the VPN. They connect directly to their DSL modems and VPN just fine. I configured the routers to pass VPN and still no luck. The tech at one of the ISPs said the the D-Link router isn't compatible with the SonicWall VPN. I don't know how much that is true but we had the same issues with ActionTec DSL modem/router and ActionTec specifically said that the SonicWall VPN will not work with their router.

Interesting, I don't think there's a SonicWall on the other end of my VPN connections, perhaps that's why I've been lucky.

Solved

FOLLOWUP--ended up with a Linksys BEFSR41--does not have Stateful Packet Inspection, but found anecdotal information that Comcast and getting the settings right for a firewall router is not always an easy or successful task. Thanks for suggestions.

Good choice. Very rock solid. I have the single port version of the same router. The BEFSR11
