Frequent Disconnecting

Every 20-40 minutes or so, my internet disconnects, I guess for just a very small amount of time, if I'm playing a game, It won't disconnect me from the game, but if I'm on AIM- I'm silently disconnected (appearing that I'm still online) for 1-4 minutes (I can still surf the web during this time), then it automatically reconnects. It's been doing this for about a month now, and I'm getting pretty sick of it. Anybody know what the problem might be or some steps I can take to find out what it is?

I'm on Bright House High-Speed Cable

I'm also on a Linksys router, but I don't think that has anything to do with it, have had no problems with it for like 5 years.

I have heard of this problem several times with this model router. It seems this brand is not the one to use for online gamers.
