Intermittent modem problems
I have a Dell desktop computer. About 6 months ago, when I would try to connect to the internet (dial-up) a message would pop-up saying, "port open..modem in use by another program or not configured correctly." I cannot see any problem on the device manager//the modem is enabled//when I quiery the modem, port 1 show no modem and port 3, where3 the modem is supposed to be just displays for a moment and then the test is over.
Any thoughts? thanks a lot |

Hi,
Sounds to me like you have a port sharing problem. What I would do is go to device manager and uninstall or delete your modem. then shut down and physically take out the modem from your computer, move it down to PCI #3, fire it back up and let it load. When you boot back up, load your drivers and see what happens. That might solve the port sharing problem.
