illogical Linksys problems
Me and my roomates share a wireless internet connection using a linksys router and just recently we have reset everything because it was having problems . almost everything was repaired ... but the problem is that for some reason they can connect to the internet wirelessly but I cannot . I have to plug my computer into the router directly in order to get anywhere .
The error I get is "cannot renew your IP address" and the wireless network comes up as little or no connectivity . It cant go anywhere with it . No matter how many times I repair the connections I am given this message each time . Now comes the messed up part that makes no sense - I figured that perhaps I needed to reinstall the linksys software on my computer . Now that I have proceeded to do this when I click on "wireless setup" when the linksys software loads up it tells me "cannot find a compatible wireless adapter" ...wait a minute ... that does not make any sense . The wireless adapter on my computer was not changed or altered in any way when we were repairing our connection . And furthermore me and my roomates are using the exact same laptops ( And I mean exactly the same . Model , hardware , Windows XP OS . Even most of the software we use is the same ) there is no reason I should be recieving this error that I can think of . Were stumped .

hmm well if its limited connectivity problem u can try puttin is the ip address and the other informations yourself....to get them use ur roommates computer and check out the ip address, sub address, default gate, dns then go to network connections and click on properties for your wireless connection on the general tab scroll down to internet protocol(tcp/ip) n click on properties n now put in the informations manually
hopefully it works :) |

Make and model of laptop and tell us what the make and model of the wireless card is in the machine.
If you have a Intel 2100/2200 PRO Wireless internal card, you need updated drivers! JamesO |

Your problem is not with the wireless card or the Linksys software. It is most likely the windows services. First make sure that the TCP/IP properties for the connection in question are to set 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server automatically'. Once you have verified that follow these steps;
Click on start. Go to Control Panel. Click on Switch to Classic View. Click on Services. Right click on DHCP client and select properties. Make sure the startup type is automatic and that the service status is started. Try to repair the connection. This is usually the problem. ![]() That is, if the problem is both wireless an hard wired. I would disable the Linksys software or select the option in it to allow windows to configure the wireless conenction. The use windows XP to connect to the wireless network. If that doesn't work, try disabling the wireless security (probably WEP). If you can connect without WEP but want wireless security there are two solutions; set up MAC filtering or create a wireless key in HEX instead of using a passphrase. Hope that helps. . .
