Sharing Internet PROBLEM!!!
I am running XP on 2 machines. I have a cable modem (roadrunner service). I want to share the internet connection between the 2. I have a Netgear 8-port fast ethernet switch http://www.netgear.com/products/details/FS608.php. I connect the cable modem to the router. Then I connect one PC to the router. The PC receives an IP and I can browse the net. Then I connect the 2nd PC. This 2nd PC gives me the message: "Limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the interent or some network resources. This problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer." Now, If I connect the PC that gave me the message first, it will get an IP and the other PC will receive the message. Both cannot receive an IP at the same time, it's either one or the other. Is it the Roadrunner service...or must I configure something else for this to work.

I have a Netgear 8-port fast ethernet switch http://www.netgear.com/products/details/FS608.php. Is it because this is a ethernet switch, not a router? When I connect the modem to this 8-port switch, only one machine picks it up, the other won't. Why is that? Both PC's are setup to obtain an IP address autimatically. Is there another way to set it up?

Like I said, you only have a switch. You need a router to share your Internet connection, otherwise, you will have to waste your time configuring Internet Connection Sharing.
