Latency jumps, need help fixing them.
I got an earthlink cable connection that's routed. It's getting serious latency jumps. Like per say I'll be playing a video game and my connection to the server will be 53ms then maybe 300, then 500, then 2000, then 1000, then 400, then 200, and it just keeps jumping. I tried restarting the router and modem. Nothing, I figure maybe theres something I can do with xp to help the connection stabalize but I don't know networking and connections all that well. Can someone throw me a bone here please?
Also reset the router and tried a few different settings... nothings seems to be working. Last edited by FALLOUTGOD; 08-10-2005 at 04:27 PM. |

If you've tried connecting directly to the modem and it still happens, I'd say it's time to call Earthlink. If you haven't tried a direct connection, that's the first stop.

Well, direct connection works great it's all my retarded brother sucking up all bandwidth with his stupid software and music theft. Is there a way I can limit his bandwitdth use of the connection, cause it's seriously starting to piss me off. He downloads like 100 songs at a time cause he is so retarded. I just wana toss his freaking laptop out the window.

I do have access to it but I don't know what I'm looking for so from my prespective there are no tools. All of it sounds like a foriegn language to me, I hate networking. Is there maybe a program I can use to do all this for me, I downloaded one but I'm fixing to uninstal it cause I can't make it work.
