Win XP PRO won't connect to the net! Help!
I just got my hands on another computer and I installed a new NIC card and installed the drivers for it. Well, it seems that when I try to connect to the internet I get a message at the bottom of the screen telling me there's little or no connectivity, and I might not be able to access the internet. I'm not using a router or anything, it's directly connected to the cable modem. The OS for the computer is Win XP Pro.
What could I try to get the computer to connect to the internet? I tried everything I could think of and still no luck. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you have to set up the tc/ip details for the new card
network connections, right click on the card and select properties select tc/ip in the box and click on properties and then enter the details you can check what they are on your old card entry write them down and then enter them for the new card

Thanks for the quick reply dai!
I just finished trying what you suggested, and still no luck. I can't figure this out. Shouldn't my new computer detect the internet automatically? My other computer does, so what gives? Any other suggestions that I could try? Thanks again.

Did you power cycle the modem when you changed the attached device? That's a must whenever the MAC address of the attached device changes.

What do you mean by "Power Cycle"? Turn the modem off and back on? If that's not what you meant, could you explain.
This is what I get from the "Support" tab: Connection status Address Type: Automatic Private Address IP Address: 169.254.30.89 Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 That's what I'm getting in the support tab and there's a yellow exclamation mark between the 2 monitors in the tray. Let me know what you guys think is the problem. I'll try anything at this point. Thanks.

The problem is the 169.x.x.x IP address is not a valid IP address, it is a default IP address that Windows assigns. You will go no where with this address.
Power cycle the modem and PC. Turn the modem off for about 1 minute. Turn it on until the status or link light is solid. Then power up your PC. Once your PC comes up. Do the ipconfig and see if you have something other than a 169.x.x.x address. JamesO |

Success! Well, after doing a few extra things I finally decided to diconnect the modem from it's power supply and waited about a minute, then I reconnected it and BAM! I noticed the yellow bubble didn't pop-up in the corner anymore :D. So this problem is solved.
Thanks again to everyone who helped me out. I appreciate it. Have a great day!
