This problem really has me stumped.
I have a friend that ask for help on his problem. He is using a 56K Modem for his dial up connection to the internet on his Windows XP SP2 machine. For some weird reason, he frequently gets disconnected from internet. He can only stay on for at least 5 mins. max. It's a different story when he is sending emails. When he is sending emails (he uses Outlook 2002) with attachments (whatever size it is) he gets disconnected immediately. The things that I've done so far are: 1.) Run a virus scan from http://housecall.trendmicro.com 2.) Run a spyware scan from http://www.spywareguide.com 3.) Uncheck every item in his MSCONFIG startup list (except for his antivirus program) 4.) Disabled his firewall (both windows and the one built in to his AV software) 5.) Reinstalled the drivers for his modem. 6.) Reseat the modem. 7.) Turned off call waiting 8.) Increase the time out of the modem. ... still nothing. That's why I'm stumped. Any suggestions that I can try?

Outlook
Tools, Options, Mail Setup, check what is configured under Dial-up. Not sure, but I would not select - Hang Up when finished with a manual Send/Receive. Also would try - Always use an existing dial-up connection. Just some initial ideas. JamesO |
