Latency/Ping Problems

Okay here is my problem. I am running on highspeed DSL on a Belkin CAT5/Wirless router. *my DSL speed has been increased by company (Bellsouth). I play computer games mulitplayer, online. I have found to start having a problem that my ping has raised to 95-120; when before i had a ping of 30. I have traced my route and pinged my first ip and got a 0ms. So to me i am thinking it might be my hardware such as my video card, which unfortunaly is stock (couldn't replace videocard bcuz the 265 i have is AGP and board runs PCP). Please i know my problem might seem stupid but then again i am only 16, and all 16yr olds are very stupid. I would really like to resolve this problem and see what i will need to do to fix it.

EXTRA INFO:
Prosessor - P4
Clocks (core speed) - 2392 MHz; (bus speed) - 531.5 MHz
Memory (type) - DDR-SDRAM; (size) - 1768 Mbs
Video - built-in

Unless you have changed network hardware, I would say it is Bellsouth's problem. What do they say about this?

Your video card should have nothing to do with your ping times/latency. Ping time and latency is clearly a network level issue.

If your pings to your first hop on the Bell South side are low, then the problem is either in the Bell South network or somewhere along the net. If the ping times are high to the first Bell South hop, then it may be the link between your house and the DSLAM in the CO. Not sure your 0ms ping times are really to the first hop outside your network??

Do the following:

Start, Run, type "cmd" then press enter.
In the black box type "ping 67.29.170.1 > c:\ping.txt"

Go to my computer, click on the C drive, open c:\ping.txt and then copy this info for the machine and post it back here.

Start, Run, type "cmd" then press enter.
In the black box type "tracert 67.29.170.1 > c:\tracert.txt"

Go to my computer, click on the C drive, open c:\tracert.txt and then copy this info for the machine and post it back here.

This will give us an idea of what we are working with.

find out more

I agree with James. I too would suggest you to try to trace a route to any local website within bellsouth range such as tracert www.home.bellsouth.net - if you see a latency of more than 90 ms within the first 5 hops it is network issue with bellsouth - but it is always better to do the traceroute with the modem connected directly instead of going through the router - so that we can know if it is a bellsouth network issue or if belkin is the culprit who is increasing the latency!

A static ip would help increase online gaming performance !!
