56K modem mystery
A friend of mine, has a US Robotics 56K modem, it used to work fine but recently they cannot connect to the internet. I took the machine to my place, and it works fine here, but I still changed out the 9 month old modem and put in a new 56K US Robotics modem in a different pci slot, removed old driver and installed an updated driver for winXP (the OS they are using). The pc works fine at my place, however.... the pc will not connect on their phone lines. I tried their cables and their phone outlets with my laptop, and yes I can connect to the internet at their place via their outlets and cords.
What can be causing the problem, of them not being able to connect with their machine to the internet? (P.S. their phone line remains "lit" even when the modem is disconnected) |
