Fixed Wireless latency question
hey all,
im about to get broadband into my house so ive been doing some research. the standard dsl broadband in my area is fairly expense so iv looked into fixed wireless broadband, its a lot cheaper and i can get the 2mb upload/2mb download connection that ive been looking for. sooo... my question is... if i go with wireless what kind of latency should i expect? im mainly getting broadband for online gaming and if im going to be getting high latency then it's not going to be worth it... anybody already have wireless braodband out there that could maybe tell me what their latency is like?! thanks! welcome to the forum
do a google search for the company you intend to connect with and see if there is any latency information there you should not have a problem it will mainly depend on how many are connected in peak times

The latency on the wireless path, based upon distance, will not be the problem, it will be down to how many errors are on the wireless link (did the provider have enough link margin for the connection, is there any interference and what frequency they are using), how over subscribed the service provider is on the wireless path, what size pipes they have to outside providers and if the routers they use are powerful enough to handle the traffic volume.
If they use a common 2.4 GHz link to the subscriber, I would be concerned! This will be hard to tell until you sign up or if there are a lot of complaints on forums about this provider. JamesO |
