Connection to router slow - or not?
One of the comptuers on my wifi network (802.11b) seems to connect to the Internet slowly -- more slowly than other computers on my network. Web page can be slow to load, for example, when compared to other computers on my home network. This particular computer is the most distant from the Linksys router. I ran a speed text at broadbandreports.com and got about 1100mpbs down and 730bps up (about 1/2 the down speed of our other computers.)
Windows reports that the wifi signal is always very good or excellent (despite a distance of about 100 feet). This particular computer is the fastest in our house -- and is running Windows XP. My question is: Can the signal between this computer and the relatively distant router be "weak" even though Windows reports the signal is being very good or excellent. (And would the fix be to upgrade to an 802.11g network.) |

There can be any number of issues here, it could be the distance, the WiFi delays, or something about the configuration. I'd move it next to the router for a test, see if that changes things. Also, try a direct connection to see if configuration issues are the problem.
