Are you running any anti-spyware programs such as ad-aware, spybot or spyblaster? If not, I suggest the following link and follow instructions 1-3.
Post back if this hasn't fixed your problem. Also- if you post back give some specs on your computer (i.e.- Ram size, Speed, OS etc.)

I wonder if Mcaffe was already installed before? As suicidal as it is, I uninstalled both Norton and Mcaffee from my computers because I was so sick of how much they slowed down my system. In fact my uncle, who knows nothing about computers, was so sick of his slow computer (Dell Pentium 4, XP Home) that he was about to throw it in the trash. All I did was uninstall every Norton product and voila! Now he loves it! I've seen this happen on four computers now. I have had the same problem with firewalls.

Start by visiting www.dslreports.com and running their speed teset. Also, let us know what level of service your ISP provides, download/upload.

Well let me say this about McAfee and Norton, I love their firewalls but IMHO they dont cut it as a virus scanner. AVG and Housecall/Trend Micro is the best virus scanners around I think, and AVG is free.

also I notice 256 MB with Win XP OS, specs will tell you thats enough ram to run it, but you really need at least 512mb so it will keep up to pace with everything you do. I would also recommend www.dslreports.com but I also try 2 or 3 runs with www.pcpitstop.com
