Limited or no connectivity error
I have 2mb ADSL running off of an ADSL modem/router
Recently, I got the error "Limited or no connectivity" when trying to usethe internet for anything (web, games, email etc). Nothing works. I am currently using dialup to check if it is a known problem. I have SP2, but have had it for a while now, and although this sounds like a known problem with SP2, I have tried to fix to no avail. I went into the connection (Start>Network Connections>Local Area Network) and I notice that DNS, Gateway, and WINS are all blank. IP Address and Subnet Mask are both there, but the others are showing as blank. I had always had it set to automatically detect, but I tried to use the "ipconfig /renew" command in DOS window, and got this error: "An error occured while renewing interface Local Area Connection : Unable to contact your DCHP server. Request has timed out." I have also tried to uncheck the box to stop it from saying that there was an error, but it didnt help it, just made it look like it was fixed. Does anyone know whats wrong? Also, here is the log taken by using "ipconfig /all": Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : whatever Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-50-8D-F3-A5-C2 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.44.135 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : PPP adapter Wanadoo Pay As You Go: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 81.78.110.188 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 81.78.110.188 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 195.92.195.95 195.92.195.94 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled |

*UPDATE* *UPDATE* *UPDATE*
Ok, I turned my modem back on, and all the lights are now on or flashing as normal. The computer shows that it is connected, and I am sending/recieving data. However, I have only received about 7 packets, and sent 362 packets. I now have a gateway, a DHCP Server and a DNS server. However, all of these show as 10.0.0.2 What does it mean? |

Ok, I just called up my cable provider because I was having the same problem. What you need to do is access the command prompt by going: start >> run >> cmd. Now type: "ipconfig /flushdns". Then type: "netsh winsock reset". Type "exit", then restart your computer. Your problem should be solved.

I'd start with the obvious, check the cable. The 169.254.x.x address is telling you that the computer doesn't see the DHCP server.
