Has my modem died? PCI card??

Hi,

recently had lots of Spyware probs, but I believe I'm now clean . However, in cleaning up my machine my modem started playing up. Basically when asking AOL to connect to the internet I'd just get what I think is commonly termed the Blue Screen of Death. When this first happened I removed by modem driver and then reinstalled it using the wizard ( it found the driver on the hard drive automatically ). About the same time my modem started playing up I got the following mesaage on boot-up " The Creative Sound Blaster PCT 128 driver cannot load MIDI waveset. MIDI playback has been disabled". I have tried re-installing the modem driver but something keeps going wrong. I also get a message about a Wave Device but cannot remeber exactly what it said. I'm now also getting a further message on boot-up saying PCI Card found and searching for Driver or words to that effect. I don't know what a PCI driver does and when I cancel from this message I get the Blue Screen of death again...? When I booted up in safe mode I have looked in Device manager and under modems and it says a modem Intel(R) 536 EP V.92 is installed on Com 4. However, when I go to the Diagnostic test and press More Info ( I think it was ) the Computer doesn't seem to recognise the modem and I get the Blue Screen again. If somebnody could tell me what to do about this I'd be very grateful. From reading various things on the internet on another PC I'm not sure whether it is software, hardware, driver, registry , BIOS or whatever problem?????
