scratching my head over speed issues

Hi
I have an nforce 10/100/1000 on the mboard and a 15meg connection through my isp. There is a phone modem and a wireless in the house. My wife connects from her laptop at about 10mbps but no matter what i try i cant get over 1.7mbps on the desktop. I have updated the drivers, tried new ethernet cables, usb, re-installing vista premium. Even though i didnt wipe out the windows old file yet. i dont know how long i have been this slow. I only noticed when the wireless modem died and my isp put in the new one and had me check pcpitstop.com. The tech said it was an issue with my pc either rwin tcp.ip or software related..

Any help would Rok!

Who is your ISP and where are you getting your speed results?

Try www.speedtest.net and www.speakesy.com for more testing. I also have that package and my speeds are generally above 20Mbps.

Re: scratching my head over speed issues

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

DSLReports

Here's also the Line Quality Tests FAQ to help you understand the results. This will answer some questions about the line quality display.
