And for some reason, her internet won't work. All the other computers are working. All the programs on her computer say that she is connected but her computer isn't able to get on. When she trys, it will attempt to load up for a minute then say Navagation Cancled.

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
HI,
What is the model number of the modem and the router? What IP address you are getting in the Wired Computer(Mom PC)? Are you able to ping the DG and Yahoo? Regards, L8ians |

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
Open internet options and click on the security tab-drag the slider down to medium and the click apply. This should allow the browser to display content that is both secure and insecure. You could also try opening the advanced tab of internet options and at the bottom there is a button 'reset' -click on this and your browser will be reset to the default settings.
If you are still getting probs then open the internet options security tab again - click on the 'custom level' button and in the box that appears scroll down to the bulllet against 'display mixed content' - choose enable and click apply and ok. |

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
I'm not sure about the modem model number, but it's an at&t 2 WIRE I think. That's what it says, and there is a number, 2700HG-B. The router is a Netgear and it's model number is WGR614v7.
I get the IP address using the command prompt and entering ipconfig/all. I tried to ping a microsoft website because it was the first one I found an IP address for. It didn't work. I'm going to try the internet security options as soon as I can. Currently her computer is in the middle of something else. Thank you both for replying and I'll post the results to steve's thing soon.

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
Your "modem" is a modem/router combination. Are all the computers connecting through the Netgear router?
Let's see this from a working connection and from the non-working computer.

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
All the computers are connected to the internet using the router, which is connected to the "modem". And the three other computers are connected using wireless adapters. The ones connected with the adapters all have working internet. I still have to get on and try the security thing.

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
Let's see this from a working connection and from the non-working computer.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command: Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
Well, you're getting a good IP address from the router, so you have basic connectivity.
Let's expand that test with a few pings. Try these simple tests. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key: NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands. Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution. IPCONFIG /ALL PING <computer_IP_address> PING <default_gateway_address> PING <dns_servers> PING 74.125.45.100 PING yahoo.com Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. <computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address) <default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here. I'd also like you to try the non-working computer booted in Safe Mode with Networking and see if that changes things.

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
Well, the Internet is working, you have a good connection. The problem is either your browser is misconfigured or you have a firewall or other application blocking it's access.
Try resetting IE to installation defaults and see if that gets it working.

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
I have to believe you have a firewall component still active.
Have you tried booting in Safe Mode with Networking to see if browsers work?

Re: Internet Connection Problem!
We can give the stack reset a try, but it appears to be working.
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key: Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands. Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine.
