[SOLVED] Trouble connection via ethernet but wireless is fine ?

I hope this is the right section!

I currently am using a virgin broadband modem that is connected to a netgear router then an ethernet cable from that into the PC.

The problem im having is with my Netgear router (WGR614) I previously had it running from the same pc tower but on a differnt hardrive, unfortunatly i had to replace my HD with a differnt one.

The now HD is having trouble picking up the router through the ethernet cable. It installs Virgin broadband but doesnt pick up the Ethernet cable during the installatation and im constanstantly getting the "still waiting to detect adapter, if your adapter is not newly installed there may be a problem", but i can get on via wireless laptop, which im guessing would suggest its the HD?

Sorry im not very good with computers so my knowledge is very limited, if anyone needs anymore information to help with this problem let me know and il try and get it :)

Many thanks in advance

Re: Trouble connection via ethernet but wireless is fine ?

HI,
Seeing this is a "NEW" HD, I am assuming you did a reinstall of the OS (XP).

Can you post the make and model of the computer?
Can you go to the Device Manager and post all errors you may have (yellow !).

Thanks,
Bill

Re: Trouble connection via ethernet but wireless is fine ?

Hey Bill and thanks for the reply, i cant check them right now as im at work il get them ready for next time ^^

its my old one but i havent had it in this tower, i upgraded it along with a new HD and that had broke previously so im back to this one.

I restored the HD hopeing to get back to a time where it worked, however when i first logged on the "wizard" tried to installed ethernet controller but failed.

do you know any where i can get hold of an ethernet controller driver for Intel desktop board D915GAG/D915PSY

Im not very good with computers like i said so im struggling to find one that i can transfer over to the PC without needing the internet =/

thanks again
