Big mistake with Belkin G plus router.

Hello to all.
I've recently moved into a shared rented house for university in the UK and the router in the house is this Belkin G Plus Router.. when we arrived it worked fine.. having speeds up to 10mb/s but then it started dropping to the point where it was just 25kb/s. Playing around with the router settings to see if we could manage to speed it up we decided to try "Access point" mode.. none of us experts we didn't know what was about to happen.. the router stopped allowing wireless access or the security key changed or something because none of us can connect to it.. and we can only plug in through ethernet but the connection is still slow when we have purchased a 10mb internet from Virgin Media.

Now we can't access the router at all not even by putting the IP address onto the browser.. I've tried checkin ipconfig and saw the default gateway and put it in the browser aswell and there is no way of accessing the router anymore. Also, the reset button on the router is broken so we can't reset it to factory settings unless we open the router and find the real button since the reset button must have been pushed to hard in the past and broken.

What can we do?

Thanks for your help.

Open it and push the reset button. There is no way to reset it if you can't get to the web based interface, other than the reset switch.

Maybe it's time to buy a new router?

Yes, i think so aswell. I'll speak to the landlord therefore. If not i'll just go for it and open the router but it looks well sealed.. Thank you for your time.

Re: Big mistake with Belkin G plus router.

I've opened the router.. and I don't really understand the button or where it is because it doesn't look like there is an actual button.. so i poked around for a bit and managed to somehow to get the wireless to work on my laptop.. but the rest of my house mates cannot connect to it. Is there any other way of resetting the router to factory settings? Thanks.

If you can access it's WEB interface, you can reset it from the system tools (or similar menu name) in the setup screens.

Re: Big mistake with Belkin G plus router.

There is no way to access it.. since it's an Access point the IP must have changed and i've tried so many different ones already.. i ran ipconfig /all and tried every single number I tried. I think this router is a lost case now. Thanks very much for your help though honestly :)

If resetting it to defaults with the switch doesn't work, I'd shop for a new router.

Hi there, I am in Queensland, Australia, about 40 km North of Brisbane. I have had the same model Belkin Wireless Modem Router, now for a couple of years and it has functioned perfectly. Initially I made a call to the Belkin people and they were extremely helpful. I had a some trouble here when my ISP went down and phoned them again and they put me right with no problems. They did tell me to look for the reset button recessed in the back of the unit. It is in a little hole with a red ring around it. To reset the unit push in with a match stick or a tooth pick with a flat end. For an normal reset only push for about one second. If you push for 4 seconds it oblitterates the settings. If you have a lot of trouble, why not download the User Manual I did and it is fairly good with detail. If you can't get around it all, send another message and I will try to find my Manual that I printed out.

I think that was the right move.
