Can connect to the router but not the internet!

I had my router connected to my PC which had internet when I installed the router and now the internet just doesn't work because it's an old computer, but I could still connect to the internet on my laptop through the same router. Wanting to get rid of the PC, I had the bright idea to disconnect the cable that went to my PC and just a cable from the modem to the router.. but it didnt work I can't connect to the internet unless I plug the cable from my modem to my computer. When I try to connect wirelessly the connection is successful but I am not connected to the internet, just the router. ?!?

Did you reboot the modem each time you changed what it was connected to?

Re: Can connect to the router but not the internet!

Try this:

Turn the modem off for 10 minutes, do not have your computer on. Then after ten minutes, turn your laptop on, make sure everything is functional. Once that is situated, go ahead and plug the modem back in. After all is said and done, go to your laptop go to Control Panel then click Network and Sharing Center on the left side, if you have Vista, there's a tab that says Connect to a network, click that. It should give you an option of wireless internet available in your area (if you have close neighbors that have wireless, I have alot =P) Once you find your wireless connection, click it, then you should be able to access the internet.

If this does not help, try look at your network card to make sure it's working properly....oh this may help...make sure your wireless is turned on...some laptops have a switch or touch thing that can turn your wireless off and on...make sure that is on =P

If none of these suggestions work, try going to RUN--->type in CMD---> /ipconfig release---> /ipconfig renew

You may have to contact your service provider. Sometimes when you disconnect your internet for a certain period of time it "locks up" and the service provider can "unlock" it.
