Lights on Modem and Router: Modem: Power and Cable burning solid green. Link/Act and Receive bliniking VERY VERY VERY fast green. Send light is not on. Router: Power light burning solid green. Vista (main computer) is on Port 4 XPs are on port 3 and 2. WAN - Link light is burning solid green and Act light blinking rapidly.. Port 4 (main machine) Link and Ful/Col light burning solid green. and 100 light (whatever that is) is NOT on at all. Port 3 & 2 (XP machines) Link/Act blinking rapidly.. Full/Col solid green 100 (whatever that is) is burning orange. I hope the light situation tells you something. Re: 2 XP computers on network VERY slow
How long have you had that befsr41? I suspect it's been a while, and may be your problem. As the Cable speeds increase, the older models really can't keep up as well. And from your description, it appears a lot of traffic is coming in from the ISP, even if it's not yours, that the router has to deal with it.
On a different track, you can check for packet errors. Click Start, Run, type perfmon.msc hit enter. Right click the graph, click properties. Remove the existing counters. Then click Add. Under Performance Object, change it to Network Interface. Find and add the counter "Packets Received Errors." Click Close, apply, OK. Leave this program open and switch to your Web Browser and browse some web pages. Switch back to the graph occasionally to see if you're getting any packet error activity. |
