[SOLVED] DI-524 wont connect to my T500!

Hey,

I have DI-524 D-Link router which i've had for 4-5 years now, and I just got a new Lenovo ThinkPad T500 for school. During the first couple of days the wireless internet connected fine as usual to our home network. Then on the third day I was experiencing limited to no connectivity from my bedroom which is only about 20 feet away from my router, on the same floor in a different room. Well actually it would connect at first but barely recieve enough packets to use the internet, now it wont even connect.

I had discovered that if i was in the same room as the router I would have a valid connection. Although there are 3 other laptops in my home that all connect perfectly from anywhere in our home. This then lead me to believe it was an issue with my either my laptop or network card. I then went to school and tested connecting to the Campus wireless and this connected no problem. I then went to a friends house who also has a D-link router and it connected fine. I even was able to connect to an unsecure network from one of my neighrbours from inside my bedroom at home and it worked fine!

Now I am stuck, I have already tried unplugging my router, no change. I cannot figure out if its my network card? my router? or something on my laptop thats causing this. I dont know if i should go out and get a new router, or have my laptop re-imaged? My network is also Wep secured, and I have not had any other issues, before my T500 I had a T60 which I used from my bedroom no problem.

Thanks in adavance to anyone who can suggest a solution.

Re: DI-524 wont connect to my T500!

and welcome to the Forum

Are there any mirrors between the router and your bedroom? Or large appliance that could be blocking the signal?

Re: DI-524 wont connect to my T500!

no, there is nothing new inside my room or in the hallway, that would interfere.

I took my laptop downstairs and after "waiting for the network...." for a few minutes, it eventually connected. I took my laptop around the house, pinging the default gateway. I would get inconsistent results from 2356ms to 2ms, and request timed out.. especially when inside my room.

I then took it down the basement, normally I would have no problem using internet in the basement. Our network wouldnt even show up when searching for networks, all I got was this new unsecure network that i've been using/stealing temporarily lol (SSID-WLAN) this has shown up recently and we get a strong signal from anywhere in the house. To test, I took a different laptop down the basement that i've used down there before and couldnt pickup our network either!

Is it possible that this network coming from one of our neighbours is interfering with our network?! If so how do I fix this?!

Re: DI-524 wont connect to my T500!

You could try changeing the channel the wireless router broadcasting on . .

Re: DI-524 wont connect to my T500!

I am on channel 6 and the other network is on 11.

but it doesnt matter now, i found the problem. It seems that my new home theater in the basement has a wireless speaker, which has a transmitter 2.4GHz. I unplugged it and now everything works :) the transmitter was directly above my room two floors up :P I had no idea it could cause so much interference.

Thanks so much for your help.
