Internet slow with WGR614-v9
In the past few weeks my interconnection gets so slow that I have to reset the wireless router every time I want to use the internet. I have a wireless network will all 5 of my PC's wireless, plus I have a network drive connected to the router. I've noticed that when there is high traffic on the LAN such as someone updating their IPOD (all the IPOD files are on the network drive), the internet connections slow down to a crawl I have the latest software available for this wireless router. Is there something I need to change in the settings to help with the internet traffic when the local traffic is heavy?

Re: Internet slow with WGR614-v9
You can try setting your wireless "RTS Threshold" setting to 1510 and then try 500. This will enable the Ready To Send protocol. Change it back to the default value of 2347 if this does not help, which means disabled. Also try enabling "CTS Protection mode."
Both of these will affect overall performance, especially gaming. But these can be very effective with some wireless networks. Wireless networks will slow to the slowest device on the Wireless Network while they are communicating. Since it's the Ipod that seems to trigger your problem, it may be communicating slowly. Otherwise, make sure all your wireless client computers' "basic rate" and "transmission rate" settings are set to "Auto." Last edited by Suncoast; 08-27-2009 at 08:21 PM. |
