DI-524 modem drops internet connection and can't update

Hey. For the past month, my router sporadically disconnects from the internet for a few seconds. It's actually quite disrupting. After searching a few forums, and seeking answers to similar questions, the most frequent advice I get is to update my firmware.

I downloaded the latest firmware for my D-Link DI-524 and I have tried updating it to no avail. I've restarted the router several times already, including a hard reset, and I keep hitting a "HTTP 400 Bad Request - Webpage cannot be found" after I apply the update.

I even encountered a poster here in TSF, with the same exact router as me, who had trouble updating the firmware as well. I tried his method to the "T" unsuccessfully.

Please try the following:

1. Set a static IP on your computer’s LAN
- IP 192.168.0.20
- Subnet: 255.255.255.0
2. Power off the DI-524UP
3. Hold down the reset button on the router with a paperclip
4. Whilst holding down the button, power on the device (do not let go of the reset button)
5. Hold the button for a further 5-10 seconds from when the unit is powered on.
6. Log in to http://192.168.0.1 and determine whether the Recovery Page is loaded. You will be prompted to reload the firmware file.

Now I can reuse the modem

Cheers
As a side note:
Current Firmware Version: 3.20
Firmware Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2005 (Really, really outdated =S)

Any other suggestions?

Re: DI-524 modem drops internet connection and can't update

You may have an older version that does not support that type of recovery. Hoping that's not the case, a couple of things to try.

Disconnect the Internet cable. Make sure only your computer is plugged into it. Make sure you are holding the reset button in while you plug in the power supply, and hold it longer. About 20 seconds, then release. Wait about 1 minute. Unplug the router for about 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait about 1 minute, then try to connect to it.
