Problems with Ichat, Adium, AIM
Hello everyone. I am having a weird problem with chat programs that started about 6 months ago—up until that point I had never had this issue before.
When I am signed on, it will work at first and I will be able to exchange messages with no problems. After a few minutes, however, I will still be online, but I will stop receiving messages. I will also continue to send messages, and on my computer, they appear to be going out, but I won't receive any responses. After a few minutes, I will get automatically signed off and back on, and it will work correctly for a few minutes and then happen again. According to people on my buddy list, it will show up on their buddy list that I have been signed off for the whole time, not just for a second right before I come back. The IMs that appear to have been sent on my end never make it to them. It's really frustrating because if I don't receive responses, I don't know if it's because they just haven't written back yet, or if it's because the problem is happening. If I sign off and back on manually, it also does not fix the problem. It happens on all chat programs--I've tried reinstalling Adium, iChat and AIM to no avail. Also, one time I brought home my work computer and had the same problem, so I think it must be an issue with my internet connection. I use wireless, but the weird thing is that I can still browse the web and do everything else while my chat programs are messed up. Do you all have any ideas about what the problem can be? My laptop and main computer that I use at home is a MacBook, running OS X 10.5.2. My work computer is a Mac G4 desktop... not sure what the exact version of the OS is. Thanks so much in advance! |
