Belkin F5D8633 - slow speed

Greetings all.
Have just bought new Belkin N F5D8633 adsl router -had initial connection problems with ISP Tiscali - but now connecting ok. Problem is that download speeds are 17 -25 Kbps - pages take ages to open. Router homepage reports download speed as 1152kbps (which is the speed of my connection - half a meg - I am pretty far from the exchange.) but speed tests report actual as approx 20kbps. I have all settings ok as far as I am aware. I have also tried disabling all security, and disabling Windows Firewall, and anti virus programs-makes no difference. I have been running a Netgear dg834G for four years with not any problem - gettting full download speed.
Op System Windows 7 beta, and have also tried on laptop with XP Home. andanother laptop with Vista 32bit. Also tried running as Wireless G (54) still same slow speed.. I would greatly appreciate asdsistance in sorting this problem.

Regards T

Re: Belkin F5D8633 - slow speed

Please verify if you have tried connecting the PC directly to your modem provided by your ISP and the problem does not exist when connecting in that fashion.

Re: Belkin F5D8633 - slow speed

Thanks for rapid reply. No I do not have the original modem any longer - but have had absolutely no speed issues with the Wireless or wired usage of my Netgear DG834G -running for 4 years now - completely stable signal.

Re: Belkin F5D8633 - slow speed

U need to update firmware on ur router.
<>Go to belkin.com, go to support.
<>Search for the latest firmware for ur model.
<>Download and install, everything should be fine after that.

Re: Belkin F5D8633 - slow speed

Firmware upgrades are rarely needed, and even more rarely fix genuine problems.

Your best (and easiest) bet should be to try to exchange the modem/router for a new one, in case the one you just got is defective.

If you're using the wireless feature on the modem/router, try connecting directly to the modem/router (if it has ethernet ports). If that doesn't solve anything, and you're sure it's not your computer, then it's the modem/router.

It it does solve the issue, then your wireless settings (either in your computer, or within the modem/router) are off - OR - it's a defective modem/router.

Also, make sure that your ISP knows your model number and MAC ID of your modem/router, otherwise your connection will be horrible (or non existent).

Re: Belkin F5D8633 - slow speed

Hi all - sorry for delay in answering - have been away. Ref Belkin router -I have done all that everyone has suggested - still problem. After contacting Belkin they agree router is faulty - and have issued RMA. Have returned router yesterday and am awaiting replacement. Will post again if the next one is ok. Many thanks to all for your help. Regards Trevor
