Re: Keep getting disconnected when playing/downloading
Just to clarify - you do have your modem connected, then the router connected to the modem. From there, you have one computer connected directly to the router, and one is wireless, right?
The biggest issue that causes your particular problem (providing you have everything connected correctly) is downloading. If either computer is using P2P (filesharing) or torrents, or any sort of continuous download software, it can hog nearly all of your connection. If both computers are set to download a lot, they will "fight" and "see-saw" for the bandwidth, causing both computers to randomly drop connection. Try power cycling your modem (just unplug the power for about 15 seconds, then plugging it back in), wait a minute, then doing the same to your router. Then reboot your computers. If you still have the same issue, try taking the router out of the equation and connection one computer straight to the modem. If that fixes the issue on that computer, you could safely assume that your router is faulty or defective, and would need to be replaced. |

I have a cable connection to both of my computers. my problem still happens even if one of the computers is not turned on, and even if im not downloading or playing anything. The router and both computer's is unpluged at night, when i plug both of the computers and the router in, i have like 30-40 minutes without disconnecting.
My router is very hot, so ive try'd cool it down with a windblower(dunno if its the real name) but that neither did work. Btw. excuse me for my bad englis, (Iam 14 and live in denmark) |

Re: Keep getting disconnected when playing/downloading
If your router is getting abnormally hot, you may just have a bad router.
Try connecting the cable modem directly to one of your computers and leaving the router and the other computer disconnected from the modem, and see if you still have problems. If you don't, then you probably have a bad router. |
