Linksys Connection Issues
Hi, I'm new to this forum and I have searched all over google for a fix for this problem but to no avail.
I have a Linksys WRT54G Router with a Linksys BEFCMU10 Modem. I am getting frequent dropped connections. I know it's not my ISP because my friend down the road is using the same and has no issues. This happened a few months ago, but it resolved itself after being let to sit there and calculate it's issue over night. But the problem just sprang up again. Every hour it seems (I'm not timing it) my computer disconnects from the internet. I know it's not the computer because no other devices on the network are able to connect (e.g. other computers and xbox 360). The only thing that resolves this issue is if I do a hard reset on both the modem and router by holding down the reset buttons for thirty seconds, but that only lasts for an hour give or take. The whole time I am disconnected the status lights on both the router and modem are happily burning glorious green, but no computer on the network is able to access the network. I have tried hooking my computer straight to the modem to see if that is the issue and I can't even get it to obtain an IP that way. I'm not sure what else to do besides calling my ISP where they will just tell me to do exactly what I have done already. I really hope my modem and router aren't going out as they are relatively new. |

Re: Linksys Connection Issues
You MUST power cycle the modem to change the attached device, maybe that's the reason the modem doesn't work.
Please connect directly to the modem and do the following tests. Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here. The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like: If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different! and your IP will be disguised. Copy/paste that link here. Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run. DSLReports Here's also the Line Quality Tests FAQ to help you understand the results. This will answer some questions about the line quality display.
