Can't connect to my router anymore

Today I installed a new modem from my ISP. Now I can't access my Dlink DI-524 Router, I think it's because I had to switch my ethernet cable connecting my computer to the router, from the router into the modem. Is there any way I can connect without a direct connection?

Have you tried power cycling your modem and router for about 30 seconds? when you plug them back in, plug in the modem 1st and give it about 2 minutes and then the router. It may be as simple as that.

I can connect to my modem though.

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

• Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
• Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
• Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
• Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
• Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
• Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
• Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

My modem is already connected to my Router.

recheck your wireless router configuration setup ! is it setup for wep encryption and can you even see the routers SSID in the list of wireless signals within range of your laptop??

This should be all you need to do, at least to get started.

Turn off your computer.
Make sure your modem is connected to the cable jack.
Make sure the modem is connected to the router.
Make sure the router is connected to your computer.
Push and hold the "reset" button on your router for about 30 seconds (the lights should all blink when it resets).
Unplug the power to the modem, and the power to the router.
Wait 15 seconds. Plug the power to the modem in.
Wait 1 minute. Plug the power to the router in.
Turn your computer on. Try to connect.

That's worked about 90-95% of the time I've ever helped anybody with a new modem that couldn't connect to the internet, and I've done it well over 3,000 times in my previous line of work.

And after that works, you can then proceed to disconnect the computer from the router, and set up your wireless connection (although I'd power cycle the modem and router again after you switch to wireless just for good measure).
