Re: Open port problem
Hi, welcome to TSF
Routers have different default usernames and passwords depending on the model. What make/model is your router?

Re: Open port problem
That's the make. What's the model number?
There are about 100 different Linksys routers. I've looked at the defaults for a few of them and they all seem to be admin for username and admin for password. Did the router come with an instruction manual?

Re: Open port problem
Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Security tab, click the Custom Level button, scroll down to User Authentication at the bottom of the list and select Prompt for user name and password, click OK, then try again.
If you are using a software firewall, disable it temporarily.

Re: Open port problem
If with the proper username and password you still cannot connect to the router, you need to reset the router to factory default settings.
Note: This will reset everything you have set in the router, including network keys (WEP, WPA etc.), time, filters, etc. Take a paper clip, and push it in the tiny reset button at the back of the router for about 15 seconds, then reboot the computer and try accessing the router again.

Re: Open port problem
No, you won't lose connection. It'll just open your router so that anybody can connect to it. Until you reinstate your security settings, anyways.
Before doing that, if you haven't yet, try leaving the username blank and using "admin" as the password. Linksys often says to use "admin" as the user name and the password, but often the routers actually require to username to be left blank. ![]() Otherwise, who installed the router? I'm assuming that it was you, or your mother. Did either of you run the setup CD that came with it? If so, it would have had you change the password. If she set it up, ask her what she chose for the password. |
