I might have done something to my internet.
Hello all, I can't really describe what's going on, because I have no idea what it is. I'll try.
Before-hand; I was playing a game on the internet and my friend suggests me to "Tap". (Disconnecting from the internet, doing something, and reconnecting.) I said I'd try it, and he told me to unhook the LAN cable from my computer. I unhooked the Ethernet cable. A lot. I hadn't realized it until after I had done it about 15 to 25 times. Now; My usual download speeds are 165 KB per second. They've dropped since then to anywhere from 4 to 38. I haven't seen it go passed. I've tried everything to make the internet go back to normal. Some things that might be helpful; I'm using an ActionTec modem, model# GTR701R. I'm using a Linksys Router, Model# WRT54GS. I'm using Windows XP. I plugged in another Ethernet cord to see if that would change anything. (It didn't.) |

Re: I might have done something to my internet.
Was your "friend" a competitor in the game ?
It might be that you need to allow some time for the connection to the ISP to come back to normal. Did you do anything else other than just unplug the ethernet cable and plug back in ? |

Re: I might have done something to my internet.
Umm, my friend was with me in a training battle. So, in a way, yes. I've waited about a day and a half now. I'm not sure it's that, but it could be. Umm, on the modem, there's The Ethernet cable, the cable that plugs into my computer, and a phone cord. I unplugged the phone cord once. It made the internet go off, and the internet got restarted. Would this cause a problem?

Re: I might have done something to my internet.
Power down the modem the PC and any router in the system, restart the modem first, then the PC, see if the connection reset. It's not a good Idea to repeatedly unplug and replug any connection on a live system like that.
