problem with my connection
Hi,
I am posting a new thread since I have a different problem with my internet connection now. I am using a wireless Linksys CISCO router (WRT54G2 V1). I was able to reset the wireless router configuration after changing my ISP but up to this time, it is still not working... I am getting the following error... 1. The netwrok or the AP may not be configured with security 2. The wireless adapter failed to get a valid IP address. This can be due to an authentication failure with the network or becuase of DHCP malfunction... BTW, when i did tghe reset on the wireless router, I did not replace the SSID and i did not put any password for the meantime. I am assuming that this will not affect what I intend to do. Also, I am in an apartment where the internet connection is centralized. what i have in my unit is just a network port and i don't know what the IP of ISP is... Can anyone please help? |

Re: problem with my connection
Sounds like you need to reconfigure the router.
If you're unsure of the required connection details, call your ISP, they will be happy to furnish you with the required information. In many cases all you need is a gateway IP, a username and password.

Re: problem with my connection
You don't need any CD's to install a router, all you need is in the web based setup that's in the router.

Re: problem with my connection
hi johnwill / promethues fire,
problem now resolved... special thanks to promethues fire for forwarding the link... i was able to chat with a live agent.. i think the missing piece was configuring the router (web based)... below is the step by step procedure that i followed for everyone's reference... 1. Connect the PC to the port one of the router then restart the PC. The connection should be router to main computer via an Ethernet cable only. (This PC should be the one that can get online if directly connected to the modem). 2. Go to your desktop and double click on Internet Explorer. 3. When "Internet Explorer" opens, type http://192.168.1.1 in the "Address" bar and click on Go. 4. The log-in window will appear. 5. Skip User Name field and type admin (admin is the default password) as the Password, and click OK. 6. Click on the MAC Address Clone sub tab and click on "Clone your PC's MAC" then save the settings. 7. On the router’s setup page, click on the Wireless tab and then the Basic Wireless Settings sub tab: Wireless Configuration - Manual Wireless Network Mode - Mixed SSID or Wireless Network Name - you can change Linksys to any name (e.g. My Network) Channel - 1 SSID Broadcast - Enable Hit the Save Settings button. 8. On the router’s setup page, click on the Wireless tab and then the Wireless Security sub tab : Security Mode - WPA Personal WPA Pre Shared Key/Passphrase - Type anything here. The minimum is 8 and maximum of 63 characters. Any letters or numbers will do. Hit the Save Settings button. -- If the Security mode is WPA then please take note of your WPA Pre-Shared Key, that would be your password or network key. 9. Go back to the Setup tab and then the Basic Setup tab and look for the LAN IP which is 192.168.1.1. 10. Change the IP address to 10.10.10.1 then save the settings 11. Shut down everything for 2 minutes. 12. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. Then connect a cable from any numbered ports on the router to the computer. Power on (starting from the modem then the router and lastly your PC). Regards to all and more power to this forum... |
