New difficulty with my wireless signal...please help!
Hello there,
I am rather frustrated after 1 1/2 hours of phone tech support over the last few days with no resolution... :( I am currently experiencing extremely poor or completely lost wireless signal in areas where, a few weeks ago, I had perfect signal. And unfortunately those areas are where I need the computer the most. I have a Macbook 10.4 upstairs that receives wireless signal from (it may sound stupid) both a 2wire modem and a linksys router. I have picked up my wireless signal from the linksys for over a year with no difficulty, but all of the sudden I can't get signal anywhere except directly above the router or in the stairway going down. There has been no recent changes in electronics, so I dont see any way interference is an issue. I have tried every possible broadband channel with no change, I have removed the linksys and worked off of the 2wire (which was worse), I have changes the router position, increased it's power output and disabled SSID. I can no longer reach the IP address website for the router to change its settings for whatever reason, even if I am connected through the linksys. I am completely at a loss as to why this change occurred, and would very much appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you for your consideration! |

Re: New difficulty with my wireless signal...please help!
It sounds like you may have some interference or a bad router. Here is a small project you may get some help with. For a test/experiment, Take a piece of foil (heavy gauge is best), bend it in a 90 degree angle and sit it behind the antenna. This will sometimes help direct more signal to the receiver until you can conquer the real problem!
Use approx. a foot or so square for the reflector. A rounded corner may help also. If it helps, please post the results as someone else may need a quick temp fix! Good luck. |

Re: New difficulty with my wireless signal...please help!
R u trying to open the router ip address page wirelessly or by connecting a wire from ur comp to ur router? Since u cannot open the router page, it may be a bad router. Try connecting the comp to ur router with a wire and check if u can open the router page. Give me specific details about the current channel and ssid settings or any more info abt ur problem.
