Can I have two wireless modems in one area?

Okay, I have a big question. (Hold on to your hats. This may get confusing. :()

I just got internet the other day. The Guy came in and installed the modem. But the modem also has a built-in wireless router in it. He hooked it all up, its all working fine.

I got it so I could go on Wifi with the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS Lite. The Wii works fine online, but the DS doesn't. I did some research, the DS only supports WEP encrypted and unencrypted networks (and IEEE 802.11b). The router that came built in doesn't have that. So I bought a Linksys G Wireless Router because on the side of the box it says:

Standards: IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.11g, and IEEE 802.11b.

So, my first question is, will the Linksys router work with the DS, second, can I hook up the Linksys router into the modem/wireless router and have them both on at the same time?

(I am new when it comes to this kind of stuff. Please don't get too technical in your explanations please. :))

Actually, I've never seen a router that didn't support WEP, so I think you should look again.

Maybe you can start with the exact make and model of the modem/router you have?

Re: Can I have two wireless modems in one area?

I'm not exactly sure. The modem/router didn't come with a manual at all. Even the box it came in, left behind by the guy, just has garbage in it. But on the actual modem/router, it says, BEC Technologies. Wait, it has the model number beneath it.

Model: BEC 7402 GTM

Does that help?

From their product description here: http://www.bectechnologies.net/files/7402Series_DS.pdf

Quote:
Wi-Fi 802.11g (7402GTM only)
• Compliant with IEEE 802.11g and 802.11b standards
• 2.4 GHz – 2.484G Hz frequency range
• Up to 54 Mbps wireless operation rate
64/128 bits WEP supported for encryption
• WPA/WPA2 support
Sounds like it supports WEP to me.

Re: Can I have two wireless modems in one area?

Then could you explain to me why it wouldn't work?

Not really, without more information. Note that you should always use the hex key option, never passcodes, as they get translated differently for WEP for some devices.

Re: Can I have two wireless modems in one area?

Hi DarkOblivion, the first thing that I will do is login to the wireless modem, and look at the configurations, take the wep key from configuration of the modem and use it to ur Nintendo DS Lite, I think that should help ..

You might consider resetting the router to factory defaults and doing a fresh configuration, that sometimes will help.
