Setting up a web server
Hiya....
I've been trying to set up an apache web server on XP. I've managed to set up the server but i'm having problems with my ADSL modem. I'm on a small home network consisting on three PCs. I've configured the router's virtual server options to allow incoming request on port 80 forwarding to my IP address (192.168.2.155). I'm able to look at my web pages and run cgi srcipts via the network using my local IP address from other networked PCs but i'm unable access the server via the internet. I know the problem is with my modem. The modems an eTEC ETHERNET/USB ASDL modem router and due to it being a router i think it would also need to be configured to allow incoming requests. When request are made to the sever the modem routers login appears asking for a user name and password. I tried setting the virtual server options of the modem router using the host IP of the network router (192.168.2.1) on port 80. I've read that changing the modem routers port to some other value excluding 80 should allow incoming requests to be forwarded to the network router on port 80. Please HELP!!

I've figured out how to get modem routers login page not to appear. I changed the access port to 1001, so now instead of the login appearing when requests are made to the server I get a page cannot be displayed error message.

I've managed to get alittle bit further. I've disabled the NAT on the modem and enabled half bridging and set the encapsulation to PPPoA VC-Mux. This works, instead of my modem router begin assign the WAN IP my belkin router is. However, for some reason either my router or the modem/router is updating the WAN IP every minute or so, so I keep getting a server cannot be found when the connection drops. The modem/router is a PT-3810 Single Port ADSL modem router (think i didnt mention this before).

First off, I'd NOT disable NAT. If you disable remote administration of the router, it'll free up port 80 for your webserver.
