hi there. I hope someone can help me.
![]() I have a dell laptop with Vista. I have a dell desktop PC with XP. I have a scientific atlanta modem from optimum online. I have a netgear router WNR 2000. Everything was copacetic. Then my husband rearranged my office, which was a truly lovely treat. Now... I can't connect the wireless modem. ![]() I can connect my desktop to the wired modem. The wired modem has only ONE input for an ethernet cable. When I connect the ethernet to the PC hard drive, and make sure hte cable is plugged in, the internet works fine on my desktop PC. When I try to connect the wireless...everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Here's what I have done: 1. Connect the yellow ethernet cable to both the wireless and the wired modem. use a cat-5 or internet cable to connect the wireless to the desktop computer. Nuthin'. 2. connect the ethernet cable from the wireless to the desktop. Use a cat 5 to connect the wired modem to the wireless one. Nuthin. The front of my scientific atlanta box looks like this: http://www.powertv.com/products/cons...es/DPX2203.jpg I couldn't find a picture of the right model to show the back but has the same um, holes (not tech savvy here...) as this one. http://gallery.techarena.in/data/519...a_dpc2100a.gif This is what the back of my wireless modem looks like: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/re...ZP8EW-2-lg.jpg I also tried using a third Cat 5 line, and attaching: the yellow cord from wireless to wired; the first cat 5 from wireless to desktop; and the third from wireless to phone outlet. I've been assuming the yellow cord goes in the yellow hole on the wireless. But I did try mixing it up. Nothing seems to work, so I wonder what the heck I'm doing wrong! Sorry I'm a total idiot, but ANY help is MOST appreciated. :)

Re: unplugged computer, now can't reconnect wireless modem...
Connect the modem with a cat5 cable to the yellow socket on the netgear router
Connect the desktop to one of the orange sockets with a cat5 cable and it should work.

Re: unplugged computer, now can't reconnect wireless modem...
What is the EXACT make/model of the modem you have?
The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements. Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.
When the computer is completely booted, let's see this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt: NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output! In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key: IPCONFIG /ALL PING <computer_IP_address> PING <default_gateway_address> PING <dns_servers> PING 206.190.60.37 PING yahoo.com Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard. Paste the results in a message here. <computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. <dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: unplugged computer, now can't reconnect wireless modem...
This sound promising, I hadn't tried turning everything off and doing ping stuff before!! I'll keep ya posted on how it turns out! I'm writing before I try, of course, in case I never get back on again. :) I appreciate the suggestions!

Re: unplugged computer, now can't reconnect wireless modem...
Okay Johnwill! I tried and so far the results are promising. I can get online on the desktop, and it's connected through the router. Every time I connected the modem to the router prior to this, the desktop went offline. Thanks. Here are the results of my pinging and ponging. Please note that my DNS server number was the same as my default gateway address, so I just PINGed it once. Hope that's okay....
Again, THANK YOU in advance for any and all help!! :) Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: unplugged computer, now can't reconnect wireless modem...
You appear to be fully connected. Now, all you have to do if you want wireless capability is to login to the router's web based configuration and configure the wireless capability.
