Help - Turning on wireless in Vista

Hi again Tech Support Forum :-)

I'm having issues with turning on wireless capability on Vista. First of all I prefer XP and trying to sort out the issue of installing XP Pro to a SATA HD. Untill then let me explain my situation...

I have a Huwaii wireless router, right now I'm connected through the LAN... A few days ago my ISP talked me through setting up the wireless which was working fine untill today after I tried connecting to another wireless network (which was unsuccessfull)...

Anyway, so I open up Network and sharing centre, in the left column I open 'manage wireless networks', the new window pops open and my wireless network is there... So I close that window as there's no place to turn on wireless network and go back to manage network connections, and this time click on 'Network Connections'... Now I find my local area connection as well as the wireless connection which has a red cross and says no connection. Right, if I right click and say connect, a new window pops open and say's 'windows cannot find any additional networks' aaarrrrgggg!!!

So now I go 'Diagnose why windows cannot find any additional networks' windows scans and says: "Turn on Wireless capability. This can be done using a switch usually found on the front or side of the computer, or a function key combination"... There's definitely no switch on the front or side (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1818 Notebook), any idea what the function key is???

Also in the past few days, after everytime I shut down and restart, Vista doesn't automatically connect, I always have to go to 'Diagnose and Repair' which has always worked and automatically turned on - up untill now!

Thanks...

Re: Help - Turning on wireless in Vista

Look in the user's manual, one of the keys on the top row in conjunction with the function key will enable/disable the wireless capability.

I'd also try this stack repair, maybe that will sort out the connection issue.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, All Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
